masters in political science You’re passionate about politics and think you want to major in government. But have you thought about what comes next? If you plan to work in government or public service, you might consider putting your career on the fast track by earning a graduate degree, too. And you can earn a dual bachelor’s/master’s degree through Suffolk’s accelerated program.
In the dual degree program, you’ll take two graduate-level courses in your senior year and then complete your graduate studies in a fifth year (full-time) – saving both time and tuition.
Your graduate courses will enhance the knowledge and skills you gain as an undergraduate, enable you to explore the field more deeply – choosing a concentration in Professional Politics or International Relations – and get real-world experience through a professional internship.
This program provides an accelerated path for undergraduate Government majors to obtain a Master’s degree in Political Science. Students can take two graduate level classes during their senior year, one at a time or both at once. Once two graduate classes have been taken, students can take no more until they have otherwise fulfilled the requirements for their undergraduate degree.
Students admitted to this dual degree program must meet all the requirements of one of the undergraduate degree programs (BA or BS in Government).
Student must also meet all requirements for the Master’s degree in Political Science (MSPS).
The two graduate courses taken during the senior year will count toward BOTH the undergraduate and graduate degree requirements. Credit hours will be awarded based on the graduate course description.
Students are subject to the usual standards for academic standing, i.e., undergraduate standards for undergraduate courses and graduate standards for graduate courses.
Upon successful completion of all of the degree requirements, a student will receive a dual Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. The exact degree will be awarded based on the specific undergraduate program the student completes. A student may permanently exit the dual degree program and opt to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree if all the requirements for a Bachelor’s degree have been met. In this case, the graduate courses taken in the senior year will be counted as 4-credit courses applied toward the undergraduate degree requirements.
